Requirements for On-Vehicle Brake Dust Measurements

Scope of the project is the summary of measurement data, technology and accuracy for brake dust measurements done in the laboratory and on the real application to define requirements for on-vehicle brake dust measurements in the future, to derive the achievable limit of quantification that will be required for current and foreseen future legal limitation. To identify potentials and development needs of on-vehicle measurement technology, a closed and a partially covering on-vehicle sampling system will be tested. Both sampling technologies will be characterised cross-wise on two brake dyno's to characterise the lower practical limit of quantification, the limits of accuracy, repeatabi lity and reproducibility. An outlook for on-road vehicle measurements will be provided , including the suitability for electrified vehicles, low-emission brakes and future targets of reduced emission limits.
