Abstract:
With joint communication and radar sensing (JCRS), integration of mobile radio and radar sensing into one system shall be achieved. This saves hardware costs and, in the case of joint use of a frequency band, reduces frequency congestion. Moreover, JCRS systems have the potentialfor extention to multipoint MIMO nethorks, which would allow for improved environmental sensing by fusion of the acquired sensor data. However, this also poses a challenge: Within the network, the sensors must be synchronized with each other to avoid interference between them and to enable multistatic operation. Moreover, if multiple transmitters shall be operated at the same time, the transmitted signals need to superimpose at the target in a constructive way, which would require to know the target position a priori. Within this project, it will be investigated how these problems can be adressed by developing new approaches and algorithms, conducting simulations as well as performing measurements.
