Abstract:
The proposed research project aims at the spatially resolved spectroscopy of phonons and photons of bilayer graphene (BLG) and stacked hetero-structures of graphene and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) on meta! surfaces. To this end, inelastic electron tunnelling spectroscopy (IETS) and luminescence detection with a low-temperature scanning tunnelling microscope (STM) will be used. The dependence of phonon and photon excitation on the twist angle enclosed by the stacked two-dimensional (2D) materials and on the local atomic environment represent key targets of the planned research work.
