Abstract:
Within this project the Electrochemistry and Electroplating Group at TU Ilmenau and the Korea Institute of Material Science (KIMS, Changwon) will hold a series of workshops to establish joint research projects in the field of sustainable electrodeposition processes. This initiative is jointly funded by both countries' national research foundations (NRFKorea-DFG-Call-2021). The aim is to bring together Korean and German experts on fundamental and applied electrochemistry to identify sustainable electroplating processes using environmentally friendly chemicals such as Cr(III} salts, non-toxic complexing agents and non-aqueous electrolytes for the deposition of elements and compounds that cannot be plated from aqueous baths, e. g. aluminum, tantalum, or niobium. Another focus will be on
electrodeposition processes for energy storage and conversion. This topic will involve experts from the University of Applied Sciences in Aalen and from the Research Institute for Precious Metals and Metals Chemistry in Schwaebisch-Gmuend. All involved research institutes have excellent networks with their national surface finishing industries. Thus, it can be made sure that the identified research topics are application-driven and transferable to an industrial environment.
