Abstract:
The emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria represents a major public health issue. Especially patients with sepsis are treated with antibiotics are prone to suffer from antibiotic-resistant bacteria. A further aspect is the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria through mutations or the acquisition of genetic material represents a major public health issue. Persisters are subpopulations of bacteria that survive antibiotics by reversibly adapting their physiology and can promote the emergence of antibiotic-resistant mutants. There are indices that a shift in the methylomes might responsible for resistance and persistence. This is the aim of the projects.
